The Star Wars Battlefront was the largest in EA’s history.
Star Wars Battlefront opened its doors to all comers on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and 9.5 million of us streamed through the door.
It’s difficult to find numbers to compare this to. The August Black Ops 3 beta was the biggest ever on PS4, but Activision didn’t say how many players engaged beyond a vague “millions”. Destiny pulled in 4.6 million participants in its 2014 beta, which broke beta records – for a new IP.
In any case, it’s certainly shattered EA’s records. The publisher released a suite of statistics from the tester on the EA Star Wars blog, saying players totted up 1.6 billion minutes of play. That’s 158,730 weeks, I think, and EA says it’s long enough to watch the original Star Wars trilogy 4.2 million times.
Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker were each spawned over 5.9 million times, with the balance in favour of Vader, who managed 1.3 million force choke kills.
My favourite statistic is that 6 million of you pushed through to rank 5, giving you a chance to see how fun the game can be once you get past the egregious drip feed content gating.
Battlefront launches on November 17 in North America and November 19 in Europe.
