A sequel to Destiny is a given, here’s all the available information so far.
Destiny 2 has not been officially announced, of course, but reports indicate it’s going to bring big changes to the formula and will be very different from what we’ve been getting with each expansion.
In the video above, Alex recaps all the available details and rumours. He starts off with official confirmation from Activision about the sequel’s release being this year, even if no specific release window was mentioned.
Judging by the publisher’s track record when it comes to Destiny reveals, expect E3 to bring us a new trailer and some light details. Assuming September is when it actually releases, the company’s marketing machine will likely drip feed information throughout the summer all the way up to the release date.
One of the more interesting rumours about Destiny 2 is that there’s a chance it’ll come to PC for the first time. No hints about PC were officially dropped, but multiple reports suggest it’s happening, with developer Vicarious Visions potentially creating the port.
As for Destiny 2 itself, it’ll more than likely be the start of a new season of content, standalone and separate from the main game. One major gameplay innovation Activision talked about refers to “play-in destinations,” densely populated points of interest such as towns and camps that make the world feel more alive than it currently is.
There are a couple of different ways Bungie could recognise your characters from the first game, without necessarily bringing them to the new one.
Alex gives the example of the Guild Wars 2 Hall of Monuments, which was a commemoration of the heroes who came before, without having an effect on the game world itself, save for some rewards for those more invested in the original.
