New Overwatch hero teaser says it’s “time to get to work”, a sentiment we can all agree with

Overwatch is getting a new hero, and we’re getting a drip feed of teasers. Here’s another one.

Overwatch fans have been graced with yet another teasing hint at the shooter’s next hero.

This time it’s gone a bit meta: this isn’t just a teaser. It’s a teaser posted in Overwatch lore by genius robotics prodigy Efi Oladele, and lovingly regurgitated by Blizzard.

Oladele is widely believed to be building the next Overwatch hero. So who is it? The spider tank thing seems to have lost momentum, and since we’ve been expecting Doomfist since the Overwatch beta nobody really gets too excited about that prospect anymore – even with the recent Doomfist-related furor.

The current theory, based on game director Jeff Kaplan’s DICE talk which included some mysterious character art he carefully didn’t reference in any way, is that Athena, the AI who oversees Overwatch matches, is getting some sort of robot body.

The teaser image itself mentions that Oladele doesn’t need to buy a vocal processor, as she already has one – in her current form in Overwatch we only know Athena from her voice, so that lines up.

In any case we’re more than ready to find out what’s actually going on. As the long drawn out Sombra AR game proved, our patience has its limits, and some people think Overwatch could stand to get new heroes a bit quicker.

Expect more Overwatch news this week, if the current rate of teasers continues.
