Battalion 1944 development is moving forward, with Square Enix now signed as a publisher.

Battalion 1944 was among the most talked about Kickstarter campaigns of last year. Developer Bulkhead Interactive pitched a WW2 multiplayer shooter in the vein of classic Call of Duty titles.

The game remains on track for release this year, but a new development was recently announced. Square Enix will be publishing the game, which due for release this summer on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

This is part of the Square Enix Collective, an initiative that was initially designed to help promote Kickstarter campaigns from small developers. Collective has now evolved into a publishing arm of Square Enix. Bulkhead actually worked with the Japanese publisher before on the studio’s sci-fi puzzler The Turing Test.

Bulkhead revealed the partnership in the video above, and promised to show new gameplay footage soon.
