Ghost Recon: Wildlands player numbers on Steam beat open beta stats

Ghost Recon: Wildlands attracted more players on Steam at launch than it did during the open beta.

The open beta for Ghost Recon: Wildlands was the biggest beta in Ubisoft’s history, with a total of 6.83 million players across all platforms.

It’s natural for games to have much higher player numbers during open betas – that’s when the game is free – than it does during launch week. However, in the case of Wildlands – at least where the Steam player base is concerned, this was not the case.

Stat trackers at Githyp revealed that Wildlands brought in a total of 32,955 players at its most active time during the beta.

On launch day (Tuesday), however, that number was 34,087, mere ten hours after the game went live. This increase, although only by a couple of thousand players, is not insignificant.

If the player base grew that much from beta to launch on Steam, there’s potentially a much bigger jump on Uplay. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell how many bought the game directly from Uplay, as there’s no in-game player count.

With that in mind, in comparing Wildlands to For Honor, another game with a successful beta, these numbers begin to appear more impressive.

At the time of writing, Wildlands is holding the no.7 spot on Steam’s most played games, with nearly 33,000 players online at this moment.
