It’s quite possible Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will make an appearance at Star Wars Celebration in April
EA will be attending Star Wars Celebration which takes place next month, and it’s almost a given we’ll get the first bit of information on Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
The firm has said repeatedly Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is coming in 2017. If that is indeed the case, Star Wars Celebration is the de facto event for a reveal. It is, after all, the same event where Star Wars: Battlefront was first shown, and the final expansion Rogue One: Scarif was announced during a Star Wars Celebration Europe panel.
According to the announcement, those attending Star Wars Celebration will have “an opportunity to hear what’s new on the Star Wars gaming front from Electronic Arts.”
With the content for the first game finished, DICE has already moved onto the next entry, and is getting help on Star Wars Battlefront 2 from Jade Raymond’s EA Motive and EA’s development studio Criterion.
Raymond’s studio is also working with Visceral on its narrative-driven Star Wars game, so we don’t expect Motive’s title until at least 2020.
It would be nice if EA provided an update on Visceral’s Star Wars game, which should be an interesting entry considering Uncharted creative lead Amy Hennig is on board and the game takes inspirations from cancelled Star Wars 1313, and swashbuckling aspects of the Uncharted series.
But, it’s possible we’ll only hear about the next Star Wars: Battlefront , as EA may be saving information on Visceral’s game for its EA Play event at E3 2017 June 10-12.
EA said previously Battlefront 2 will be larger, contain more locations, heroes and characters across multiple Star Wars eras. The game also promises “new ways to play,” including a new single-player campaign, and “much, much more.” It will also leverage content from Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens and Episode 8: The Last Jedi.
Star Wars Celebration takes place in Orlando, Florida April 13–16.
