GTA 5 continues to do the business for Take-Two with 80 million shipped

Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to sell very well for Take-Two despite being on the market going on four years now.

Take-Two announced during its Q4 and full fiscal year 2017 report that GTA 5 has now shipped 80 million units life time. The figure is up 5 million units since the firm reported its Q3 earnings in February. It was announced during in the release the game had shipped 75 million units.

The company uses the term “sold-in” which means sold to retailers, not sold-through to customers.

“The title continues to attract and delight new audiences, especially as the installed base of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One expands further,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

The GTA 5 figures could be one reason share prices are back up 7.40% to $73.98 after stock prices took a small dive due to the delay of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Speaking after the call to MCV, Zelnick said 75% of sales for the title were physical compared to 25% digital.

For full-year ending on March 31, 2017 the firm reported net revenue of $1.780 billion, up 26% compared to $1.414 billion year-over-year (yoy).

The largest contributors to net revenue in fiscal year 2017 were GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online, NBA 2K16 and NBA 2K17, Mafia 3, WWE 2K17, and Civilization 6.

Digitally revenue was up 32% to $921.7 million, compared to $697.7 million yoy. Recurrent consumer spending, which covers virtual currency, downloadable add-on content and microtransactions, accounted for 50% of digital revenue, or 26% of total net revenue.

The largest contributors to digital revenue for FY17 were GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online, NBA 2K16 and NBA 2K17, Sid Meier’s Civilization 6, WWE SuperCard and WWE 2K17, and Mafia 3.

For the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2017, revenue grew 52% to $571.6 million, compared to $377.2 million yoy.

The largest contributors to net revenue in Q4 were Mafia 3, NBA 2K17, WWE 2K17, Civilization, and again, GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Digitally revenue grew 43% to $278.7 million, compared to $194.8 million yoy. Recurrent consumer spending () accounted for 50% of digitally-delivered net revenue, or 24% of total net revenue.

The largest contributors to digitally revenue in Q4 17 were GTA 5, GTA Online, NBA 2K17, Mafia 3, Civilization 5, and XCOM 2.
