Challenge Rifts are a new type of Rifts that strip away the randomness and demands precision.
Blizzard has unveiled a new activity coming to Diablo 3 with patch 2.6.0.
Called Challenge Rifts, this new Rift type is designed to make it more fun to try out unusual builds, or ones you don’t typically run. Basically, a Challenge Rift is a copy of someone else’s Greater Rift that’s already been cleared.
The game keeps a snapshot of everything, including level layout, monsters, and even the player’s gear, skills, and attributes. The goal is to beat that rift in a time shorter than the original player’s. This weekly event rotates every Monday.
If you’re able to beat the target time, you’ll be rewarded Blood Shards, and crafting materials. These rewards will only be given once, though, but you can continue playing the Challenge Rifts as much as you want.
To make things less clunky, Blizzard allows you to test out the build before you get into a Challenge Rift, which is great news for those looking to try out builds that are outside their wheelhouse. The video above has a nice overview of the feature.
More details about patch 2.6.0 are expected soon.
