Don’t expect the number of OG Xbox games playable on Xbox One to be as big as Xbox 360’s

Sure, you’ll be able to play original Xbox games on Xbox One soon, but don’t expect the library available to be as extensive as Xbox 360’s.

Many hoped that after the successful launch of Xbox 360 backwards compatibility on Xbox One that Microsoft would extend this support to the original Xbox.

The company delivered this E3 when head of Xbox Phil Spencer took the stage to confirm that original Xbox games will be playable later this year on Xbox One. But just how many titles can we realistically expect? Definitely not as many Xbox 360, according to Spencer.

Speaking to Giant Bomb (via Gamespot), Spencer said that supporting original Xbox games on Xbox One is more technically challenging than Xbox 360, and touched on the rights issue as another bump in the road.

“It won’t be as big as Xbox 360, I’ll tell people that,” he said.

So far, there are around 390 Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One, but only two original Xbox games were announced. They’re Crimson Skies, and Fuzion Frenzy. We’ll find out later this year what to expect when the service officially launches.
