Final Fantasy 14 director is interested in bringing the MMO to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, exploring options
Final Fantasy 14 is a unique game and it may take its makers a while before they could get it working on Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch.
Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida was recently asked if the dream of bringing the game to Xbox One, or even Nintendo Switch, is completely dead. “We want as many players joining Final Fantasy 14 as possible,” he told Finder.
In order to bring the game to more people, the team adopts a policy of continuously exploring different options with regards to the different platforms. The issue is that some conversations with platform holders need to happen, and they take a long time.
“We need to make sure Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we do and have them know about our online and QA regulations. We believe these conversations will take a long time,” Yoshida pointed out.
This also extends to community support if and when those versions happen, and Yoshida called it a shared responsibility between platform holders and Square Enix.
Final Fantasy 14 supports cross-platform play between PC, and PS4, and that’s likely part of why it’s going to be challenging to bring it to Xbox One, let alone Nintendo Switch.
