Monument Valley 2 is out right now on iOS, in case the App Store screeching at you didn’t get the message through
Monument Valley 2 is here. Perhaps someone under a rock has not yet heard?
Monument Valley is one of those games it is practically against the law not to like, so it’s not hellishly surprising Apple chose to highlight the sequel during its Worldwide Developers Conference yesterday.
While the visuals retain the first game’s distinct style and the gameplay is similar, Monument Valley 2 builds on the formula by giving you two characters to control as you explore the titular structures.
Monument Valley 2 had been kept very quiet, so Apple got to do one of those wonderful surprise announce-and-release things we all enjoy so much. Grab it via the iOS App Store for $4.99 or regional equivalent, for iPhone or iPad.
The Cupertino crew is now promoting heck out of Monument Valley 2, so if you’ve glanced at the App Store at all since the event you no doubt noticed it. It looks like Monument Valley 2 will be exclusive to iOS, at least for a while, which is not terribly surprising given Android users pirated the hell out of it.
The first Monument Valley released in 2014, and won a lot of hearts and awards both; it’s a neat puzzler that plays to the strengths of mobile platforms and is also incidentally extremely good-looking. It also made a lot of money, which one can’t quite help but feel is an important metric.
Look out for hundreds of Monument Valley 2 clones on all app stores over the next few weeks, assuming they’re not there already.
