Finally, after all these years, we’re getting new Xbox Live Avatars.
The new Xbox Live Avatars are set to go live this fall, according to the video posted by Tom Warren on YouTube. The video was created by Microsoft and shown this week during its Xbox E3 2017 event.
Back in 2015, job listings posted online by Microsoft stated the company was looking for prospective staffers to help create “higher fidelity” toons. These avatars would be “not only gorgeous, but highly performant across” wide scale of devices.
In other words, the unified gaming environment of Xbox One and Windows 10.
Dubbed Avatar 2.0, the new personas were built with Unity, and the new items such as prosthetics, wheelchairs, vehicles, and props will also interact with the environment. You can listen to the Avatar teams discuss the new personas through the Xbox Livestream from E3 here when you skip to the 1:55 mark.
Last year it was confirmed the new look for Avatars was in the works, along with a wheelchair option – as you can see in the video.
It sounds like we can expect the revamped avatar to arrive around the same time as Xbox One X, which launches November 7.
I’m actually going to miss my old Avatar. I think. She’s been around for so long. I’ll probably miss my lasso the most, and my pony Fred. But, it looks like we can get a unicorn, so I’m sure regular horses are included.
But the lasso. I still want a lasso.
