Following Apple’s iOS 11 update, Pokemon Go is expected to behave even more realistically with the world around you.
Pokemon Go is an incredibly successful mobile game, complete with exciting new events and updates to keep players invested. However, its core experience largely revolves around observing Pokemon in the real world – making it easier to catch them all. That’s why it’s worth paying attention to Niantic’s latest blog post, which details how it will adopt the latest AR tech for iOS 11.
“Utilizing this exciting advance in AR, we are working to create new, fun and innovative ways to place Pokémon in the world around you, to view Pokémon, and to use your phone camera to capture the moment,” Niantic wrote on its blog. “The digital world will overlay the real world in more detailed and accurate ways and you will be able to interact with Pokémon in a more immersive and life-like fashion.”
The changes to Pokemon Go were teased at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in San Jose, California, which Niantic attended to discuss the new ARKit features for developers. It’s not entirely clear how effective Pokemon Go’s AR will behave outside of these screenshots and a tech demo, but Niantic has promised to reveal more in the coming months.
Apple’s ARKit will launch with iOS 11 this fall.
