Bungie shows off Destiny 2’s new hub, “The Farm”

Destiny’s Tower will be replaced by a new hub world that changes as you complete the campaign.

Destiny 2 is breaking new ground from the original game, in some cases literally – your familiar Tower will be destroyed once the game begins. (Spoiler alert.) Thankfully, Bungie is providing a new hub setting called “The Farm”, where the remaining Guardians take shelter to plan their next move. This location was recently detailed in a preview by IGN, and we have to admit – from all appearances, it’s pretty sweet.

The Farm seems to be a similar size to the Tower, and contains many of the same features – such as a Cryptarch, a Postmaster, and other merchants. Similarities end there however, as your hub has a more rustic, down-to-Earth feel than a distant Tower. What’s more, its surroundings change as you complete the campaign, showcasing new fortifications or civilian arrivals. NPCs will come and go as part of various quests or special events, and real effort has been made to help the Farm feel lived-in by its community.

Perhaps the best touch, however, is the Farm’s fully playable football field (aka American soccer), where players can attempt to kick the ball into the opponents net. Bungie’s even included a scoreboard for players passing the time between missions. It wouldn’t surprise me if this is one of the Farm’s most used features when Destiny 2 launches on September 6.
