Middle-earth: Shadow of War will feature a familiar face, or name rather.
Shelob the Great herself from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, will play a role in Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
Oddly enough, she appears first in spider-form before transforming into a rather attractive lady. While Tolkien fans may feel Monolith are taking liberties with the character, there’s some wiggle room in the lore.
You see, Shelob was described in The Two Towers as a evil being in spider-form, who was the offspring of an even older evil spirit in the form of a spider who herself was before the world.
Shelob has resided in the world for a long while, and built her lair on the border of Mordor long before the first stone of the Dark Tower was laid and before Sauron came into the land.
So, it’s possible the studio is using “in the form of” to validate her being able to transform into a humanoid in Shadow of War.
Whether players will be able to trust Her Ladyship remains to be seen, but her visions seem to play an important role in the game. She shows Talion the shining city of Minas Ithil aflame and besieged by Sauron and his minions.
Celebrimbor doesn’t feel she is an ally, and it’s probably best to trust his judgement. Talion sees things differently though, going by the trailer shown at Comic Con 2017.
We’ll have to wait and see come October 10 whether Shelob is indeed and ally, or whether she is using Talion to further a personal agenda.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X.
