Microsoft discontinues launch Xbox One

Microsoft has ceased manufacturing of the original Xbox One.

The company will now only make the various Xbox One S models, as well as the upcoming Xbox One X.

Microsoft confirmed this to Glixel, saying that the move was “typical” for the industry.

“As is typical for the console industry, we stopped manufacturing the original Xbox One when we introduced Xbox One S,” the company told Glixel.

The original Xbox One model launched in November, 2013. Nearly three years later, in August, 2016, the company released the first hardware refresh with the Xbox One S. The S model is slimmer, quieter, and comes with a slightly beefier CPU. It also supports HDR.

The Xbox One S remains the only console in its price range to have a 4K-capable Blu-ray drive, something neither of Sony’s PS4 models have.

The Xbox One X, the next member of the Xbox family, is already off to a good start, at least as far as pre-orders. It launches worldwide on November 7.
