Monster Hunter World features 14 weapons which players can use to slay monsters. Here’s a look at one of them.
This video takes an in-depth look at the Charge Blade, which is one of the weapons in Monster Hunter World.
We’ve been given a look at Bowgun and the weapon and armour systems, and have been provided information on the three weapon categories.
But the video from Arekkz below taken at gamescom 2017gives us our first real look at the Charge Blade.
While it is a bit similar to the Switch Axe as it features two different weapon modes. It’s a sword, obviously, so it features Sword Mode but it also has an Axe Mode.
Sword Mode features a shield which can be used to block, and can charge up player energy. When there is enough charge, the shield will store it giving the player plenty of charge to perform a powerful explosive attacks in Axe Mode. That’s just the basic rundown, but there’s more to it.
Sword Mode is the default setting for the weapon, which as stated above is used mainly for building energy. When performing a Roundslash attack, it will auto block at the start and go into an axe attack which can be used after a successful block.
A Phial Meter next to the Sharpness Meter will start glowing. When yellow, it will fill three phials, and when charging at red five will be filled. A double-slash attack and the Roundslash will help fill the meter rather quickly.
While in Axe Mode, pulling the sword out will default to this mode but can only be used when enough phials are charged. Attacked will consume one phial per attack. This mode also features a burst move to perform a very powerful attack, but it is a bit slow, so keep that in mind when using. This will also cause the weapon to go back into Sword Mode after the attack is finished.
Charge Blades also two phials. One is an Impact phials which uses explosive damage to stun, and Element phials will dish out a heavier attack using the weapons particular element. If any of this confuses you during gameplay, the menu has an option which shows off the different moves which can be performed, which buttons to press, and what each one accomplishes.
Arekkz goes into much more detail in the video, so just give it a watch to find out all you need to know on the Charge Blade.
Monster Hunter World releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2018.
PC players will be able to get their hands on the title as well at a later date.
