Ground and terrain textures are about to look a whole lot better in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds thanks to tessellation.
During Devcom 2017, the development-focused part of gamescom, Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene hosted a talk to discuss a wide range of topics.
Most of what was talked about concerns some of the tech the studio has been using, some development hacks the game utilises to increase performance, and other Unreal Engine-related tech.
Following his presentation, Greene gave everyone on Twitter a look at one of the systems he showed during his presentation. This new terrain tech greatly improves ground textures with the help of tessellation, a feature that allows textures to look a lot more realistic.
According to Greene, the system is currently in development, though he wasn’t able to provide a release date. The screenshots above represent the feature in its work-in-progress state.
Speaking of new tech, Battlegrounds now supports Nvidia’s HBAO+ Ambient Occlusion tech. The same patch that added this also brought support for ShadowPlay highlights, a feature that automatically captures intense moments and allows you to save them later.
