PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been rated for Xbox One in Australia, and now has a longer name

By James O'Connor

PUBG has received an MA15+ rating in Australia (the second strongest classification a game can receive), and seems to be carrying a longer name for its console release.

The game’s full title, according to the ratings page, is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: The Ultimate Life & Death Fight. That’s a little clearer on what the game actually is, although with 15 million sales on Steam brand identity is probably not a big concern for publisher Microsoft Studios.

The game received its MA15+ rating – which prevents anyone under 15 from buying the game without the consent of a parent or guardian – for ‘moderate impact’ themes and ‘strong impact’ violence. That sounds about right.

Australian ratings don’t divulge as much information about content as some other rating systems around the world, but then this is a game we already know quite well.

Unfortunately this listing gives us no indication of when the game will release for Xbox One, or what, exactly, will be in the initial release – will we get the Desert map on release, for example? We’ve also heard that Microsoft is likely to want the game as an Xbox console exclusive for as long as possible.

A release date for the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: The Ultimate Life & Death Fight, which we are probably just going to keep calling either ‘PUBG’ or ‘Battlegrounds’, has not been solidly locked down yet, but we’re expecting it before the end of the year.
