Star Wars Battlefront 2 open beta: how does Galactic Assault mode work?

By Matt Martin

Now the Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta is live, let’s dig into the modes and see what’s on offer.

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta is pretty meaty, offering up Starfighter Assault on Fondor, Strike mode on Takodana, a single player Arcade mode and Galactic Assault on Theed. We’ve covered all the big changes in our star Wars Battlefront 2 open beta guide, including Star Cards, loot crates, Starfighter controls and classes.

It’s the last mode we want to highlight, because there’s nothing worse than blundering into a game, ignoring the objectives, not supporting your teammates and losing the round as a result.

Galactic Assault is the big war mode for Star Battlefront 2, incorporating characters and locations from all three Star Wars trilogies, and supports 40 players.

The main goal is to complete a series of objectives (or stop the opposing forces from doing so), in a similar vein to Battlefield 1’s Operations or Call of Duty’s War mode.

The Galactic Assault map in the Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta is on Naboo in Theed city, with Separatists trying to rush the palace protected by Clone troopers.

Phase One requires Clone troopers take down the MTT and their separatists using Ion Launchers. Separatists need to stop the Clones from destroying the MTT and advance on the palace.

Phase Two has the Clone troopers retreating to the palace as the Separatists push forward, with the droids attempting to disable security systems – one in the east atrium and one in the west atrium of the palace.

Phase Three is all about the Separatists storming the throne room and capturing the control point from the Clone troopers. This is the last push for both sides, to either complete the storming of the palace or defend it until your dying breath.

So now you have the basics, there’s no need for you to stumble around the Galactic Assault map, ignoring the 19 team mates shouting for help as you try to get revenge on a player you think slighted you.

Let’s say it all together now: “play to the objectives”.

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta runs until next Monday October 9.
