Super Mario Odyssey discounted digitally ahead of launch

By Jamie Wallace

Right now, you can preorder a digital copy of Super Mario Odyssey for the same price as the boxed copy.

Up until recently, the game’s digital edition was priced up on Amazon UK at £59.99, while the boxed version was discounted all the way down to £41.99. This type of pricing matches what Nintendo itself is asking for in regards to first-party titles on its eshop platform. On the UK eshop, a digital copy of Breath of the Wild will still cost you £59.99, while you can easily get the game for under £50 by going for a boxed copy.

Amazon has recently lowered the price of the digital version of Mario in order to align it with the boxed version, bringing them both to £41.99. Better still, Prime members will get an extra £2 off, making either version cost only £39.99. Now that we’re only a couple of weeks away from this game finally launching, that’s an exciting thing indeed.

I am one of many people attempting to commit to a digital-only future when it comes to Nintendo Switch and, had it not been for this price cut just short of launch, I’d have been forcing myself to go for a boxed copy instead. If you, like me, prefer your library of Switch games to be available without switching carts, you may just want to get an order down before the game comes out.
