Not including powerful PCs, the Xbox One X version of Assassin’s Creed: Origins delivers the best looks.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins is among the games that already have their Xbox One X patches, and the resulting visuals are fantastic, according to new Digital Foundry analysis.
Specifically, the overall presentation is sharper on Xbox One X compared to PS4 Pro, thanks to an upgrade in resolution. Origins utilises a dynamic resolution system across all consoles, but it can go as high as 3584×2016 on Xbox One X, compared to 2816×1584 on PS4 Pro. On the lower end, the X stays on top with 1656p vs the Pro’s 1350p.
That said, you’ll generally be seeing an average of 1700p on Xbox One X, and 1440p on PS4 Pro. It’s not just a resolution bump, either, improved texture filtering, and a better shadow resolution can bee seen. It allows it to sit somewhere between PC’s highest presets and PS4 Pro.
Unfortunately, you won’t get a frame-rate increase. Origins targets 30fps on all consoles. Both Xbox One X and PS4 Pro deliver a very consistent 30fps, but the same can’t be said for base Xbox One, and PS4. Cut-scenes are as choppy on Xbox One X as they are on PS4 Pro, according to the report, even if things are a little better on the former.
Back to the general presentation, and though it’s better on Xbox One X, many may not actually notice a big difference between it and PS4 Pro. One way Origins does this is through the use of temporal AA. This solution ensures no matter the resolution, the game appears sharp enough on both consoles.
