The latest promotional video for Far Cry 5 shows off the game’s take on Montana, and explains why Ubisoft wanted to set their game there.
Ubisoft has released both a blog post and a video (below) about the game’s Montana setting. Hope County is not a real place, but Montana is, and according to the blog post it was important that they “accurately capture every detail, from the wildlife to the logos on roadside shops to the bark on trees, to make Hope County feel like a convincing place”.
Designer Jean-Sebastien Decant says that the team at Ubisoft “fell in love with Montana”, especially its landscapes. “It felt to me like a wide space that we could own as a Far Cry game”, he says. “We felt that it was exactly a match for a Far Cry space.”
He also believes that Montana will feel more like ‘home’ than previous locations have. The team is hoping that players will treat Hope County more like a real ‘place’ than they have in previous games, keeping to the roads and obeying traffic laws (when you’re not mowing people down, of course).
You’ll really get to know Hope Country during the game, since the minimap has been axed.
There’s a real focus on the game’s amazing textures in this video, and they talk about the game’s fly-fishing minigame quite a bit. Apparently the game has a “super deep fishing system”.
Far Cry 5 releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 27.
