Good news, Zach – Deadly Premonition comes to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today

By James O'Connor

Here’s some good news if Deadly Premonition is part of your backlog – it’s finally being made available on Xbox One.

Deadly Premonition is the work of eccentric game designer Hidetaka Suehiro, also known as SWERY or Swery65. The game casts you as FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan, who is hunting a serial killer across Greenvale, Washington. It all takes a weird supernatural turn very fast.

The game is extremely heavily influenced by David Lynch’s Twin Peaks (right down to featuring its own version of a Red Room), but feels very unique due to the hyper-specific tics and eccentricities that were worked into the game. Put simply, it’s an exceptionally strange game.

Deadly Premonition is also notable for appearing in the Guinness Book of Records as the most critically polarising survival horror game, attracting a whole range of different reactions and review scores.

Xbox One is also home to Swery65’s last project, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, which is also pretty strange. Right now the man is working with his new studio on The Good Life, a game that recently failed to secure crowdfunding on Fig, but which still seems to be in development.

If you haven’t come on board with Deadly Premonition yet, now’s the time to do so – it divides people, but those who love it really, truly love it.
