Star Wars: Battlefront 2 early analysis reveals checkerboarding on all consoles, more stable fps compared to beta
A new report comparing the beta versions of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 with the launch release reveals a change in rendering tech.
The report, by NX Gamer, is an early look at the release version of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 across PC, PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X.
Starting off with base Xbox One, the launch version appears to have improved since the beta. While the beta opted for a dynamic resolution scaler that maxed out at 900p, the final version uses checkerboarding techniques often reserved for the more powerful consoles. The end result is fluctuations between 1728 x 972p on the top end, and 1600 x 900p on the low end.
Performance has been improved, as well, with frame-rate hitting closer to the target 60fps than the beta’s 40-50fps range. It’s a similar situation on the base PS4, too, which also used dynamic resolution tech in the beta.
While the beta ran at 1080p during the less hectic moments, resolution mostly hovered around 918p. Frame-rate was similarly all over the place, with drops to the 40s. With the arrival of checkerboarding in the launch version, we get more stable frame-rate, akin to the PS4 Pro’s performance in the beta.
On Xbox One X, the visuals really shine, with the report indicating that it’s comparable to the PC’s high settings, with some minor differences. Checkerboarding is present here as well, with the resolution going as high as 3840 x 2160p at times, though it does stay at that level for a lot of the time.
On the other end of the mid-generation upgrade, the PS4 Pro stands at the maximum of 1440p – though this data is from the beta version compared to the Xbox One X version running final code. Frame-rate is solid on Xbox One X at 60fps, tracking ever so slightly higher than base Xbox One.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is out November 17 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Deluxe Edition owners get to play starting tomorrow.
