The Frozen Wilds is right around the corner, but before you dive into it, why not take a moment to acquaint yourself with the local wildlife?
The Scorcher has been shown off today in a post on PlayStation Blog. While this expansion takes us out into the snow (hence the name), the Scorcher will be bringing some heat to the expansion’s chilly setting.
In the video below, various members of the game’s development team – Principal Designer Dennis Zopfi, Lead Animator Richard Oud, Lead FX Artist Marijn Giesbertz and Audio Lead Bastian Seelbach – go over the logistics of designing a creature like this.
The Scorcher’s movements are based on creatures like wolves and coyotes, although its run more closely resembles that of a cheetah. It has various flame-based attacks, shooting out walls of fire and propelling itself aggressively at the player with the thrusters all over its body.
The developers want players to feel like they are being hunted by this thing by making it aggressive and dangerous, and make fights against it tough. Apparently you will need to move around constantly to fight it, and rely on stun attacks.
We’ll get to meet these things out in the wild when Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds launches on November 7. He’ll also be available in the Complete Edition of the game, although you’ll have to wait a bit longer for that.
It’ll be good to get back into the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, even with these things chasing us.
