Final Fantasy 15: Episode Ignis is out today, bringing new story content and a mode where you beat up Noctis

By James O'Connor

The latest DLC episode for Final Fantasy 15, Episode Ignis, is out from today on PS4 and Xbox One.

The latest piece of Final Fantasy 15 DLC, following last month’s Comrades multiplayer mode, fills in some gaps in the plot of Final Fantasy 15, taking place during that bit (the absolute lightest of light spoilers follows, so I’m going to stretch this out a little bit so that you can easily avoid the end of this sentence if you are sensitive enough that you don’t want a single detail spoiled about this game that came out a year ago, no matter how minor) where Noctis is unconscious.

Here’s some info direct from the press release:

Set against the backdrop of the Trial of Leviathan, this episode features a brand-new storyline told from the perspective of Ignis as he fights to protect Noctis. With multiple endings available, players will be able to see a different outcome of events based on their decisions made in the game.

This update will also add a character-swapping mechanic, which will let players switch between playable characters during the campaign.

Ignis can use his spelldaggers in combat, enhancing them with elemental properties and using ‘Total Clarity’ to attack multiple enemies at a time. You’ll also get a new comrade – Ravus – and be able to battle against Noctis in an ‘Extra Battle’ mode. Cool – get some practice in before Noctis comes to Tekken 7.

This DLC is extra special because it heralds the return of Yasunori Mitsuda, the composer who worked on the incredible score for Chrono Trigger. This is a pretty big deal, since he has not worked on a Square Enix game in so many years.

This DLC is available as part of the Final Fantasy 15 season pass, or it can be purchased separately for $4.99.
