GTA Online treasure hunt rewards players with Double-Action Revolver for use in Red Dead Redemption 2

The files and assets referencing a Red Dead Redemption 2 revolver in GTA Online do indeed reference a reward which can be unlocked.

Rockstar announced today a Double-Action Revolver can be unlocked in GTA Online and used in Red Dead Redemption 2 when it releases.

Earlier this week, game files for the revolver found in the latest GTA Online update, The Doomsday Heist,  which features new co-op missions, multiple vehicles, weapons, a jetpack. In the files, reference to a treasure hunt which hands over a unique weapon for both GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 were found.

The chest is inscribed with Boles Overland Stagecoach Co, a logo which was seen in s a batch of Red Dead Redemption 2 screen shots.

Here’s word on it from Rockstar:

“Rumors of a lost relic from the frontier have begun to surface, and treasure awaits those bold enough to seek it. Keep an eye on your iFruit for a special in-game email containing the first clue, then follow the trail to unlock the Double-Action Revolver in GTA Online.”

Once the Double-Action Revolver is found, players will need to Complete the Headshot Challenge in Freemode, and doing so will reward them with GTA$250,000.

Players will also unlock the handhun for use in Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when it releases in Q2 2018.
