Overkill’s The Walking Dead reveals first playable character in stream with creator Robert Kirkman

The first playable character in Overkill’s The Walking Dead has been revealed via a new trailer shown on Twitch.

Aidan is a former architect surviving in the ruins of Washington D.C, wielding a baseball bat with nails hammered into it against the walkers.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead was unveiled all the way back in the summer of 2014, and comes from the developers of the co-op bank heist series, Payday. Their take on The Walking Dead will also be a four-player, co-op FPS, where each playable character will have their own special abilities, skill trees and squad roles.

This trailer – which was teased last week on Twitter – drops alongside a short dev diary, introducing some of the team behind the game.

“We’ve never done anything as big as what we’re doing with Overkill, so I think that’s really exciting.” said The Walking Dead creator and writer Robert Kirkman.

“When we started doing Walking Dead video games, I thought that first-person-shooter stuff was such a crowded marketplace, and there’s so much cool zombie stuff in it, I was initially very reluctant to go in that area with Walking Dead.

“I wanted to make sure that when we did it, it was really going to blow doors off, it was really going to break new ground, and it going to be something that could stand head-and-shoulders above the things around it.”

Overkill’s The Walking Dead is slated for a Fall 2018 release on Steam, Xbox One and PS4.
