When Overwatch League kicks off in early 2018, you’ll be able to support your team by buying their representative skin.
The Overwatch League has expanded out to 12 teams, and from January 10 you’ll be able to buy skins for each of them to show off your allegiance. In the video below, Overwatch League Commissioner Nate Nanzer compares it to buying a jersey for your favourite team in any other sport – it shows your support, but it also gives money directly to your team of choice.
To ensure that profits go to the teams, Overwatch will be implementing a ‘League Token’ currency. If you log into Overwatch within the first month of the League kicking off you’ll be given enough tokens to buy a skin, but beyond that you’ll have to pay.
These tokens can only be used on League related in-game content.
Over on Reddit, fan FieryREIGN has helpfully rounded up all the different skin designs and compiled the images in one place. Personally I’m inclined to support Philadelphia Fusion just on the strength of their skin design.
It has taken a while for the Overwatch League to properly get going, and the game, despite its huge popularity, has struggled a bit to develop its esports scene, but this is a good sign that Blizzard is committing to it.
