Files and assets referencing a unique Red Dead Redemption 2 revolver have been found in the latest GTA Online update.
The Doomsday Heist, released today for GTA Online, features new co-op missions, multiple vehicles, weapons, a jetpack, and seemingly a treasure hunt that will gift the player a unique weapon for both GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption when it’s released next year.
A model of a chest found in today’s files is inscribed with Boles Overland Stagecoach Co, a logo supposedly seen in recent Red Dead Redemption 2 screen shots.
What’s more, text in the files mentions a challenge and unique loot as a reward. The description of the files linked to a golden revolver reads:
“Because sometimes revenge is a dish best served six times, in quick succession, right between the eyes. Sign up to the Rockstar Games Social Club to get access to the Double Action Revolver Head Shot Challenge. Beating this challenge will unlock GTA$ and an exclusive variation of the weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2.”
The assets also seem related to a new character model found in files, the “deadhick”.
Texture for the "dead hick", that likely will lead us to the treasure.
There are three models for the dead hick, progressively getting more naked as @GuruTadd mentioned in his tweets. pic.twitter.com/Owno9MEmAJ

All details so far have been found by the sleuths at the Red Dead Network.
It’s not unusual for Rockstar to put unused files and placeholder text in GTA Online before activating them at a later date. Indeed, that’s how the majority of leaks of upcoming GTA Online content are discovered and revealed ahead of time.
We’ll keep an eye on developments and report back with anything else significant. Meanwhile, the GTA community is likely to tear Los Santos apart looking for clues and locations of any hidden items on the map. But will Rockstar reveal more details before anything can be found?
