Codemasters has said that including GP2 with the publisher’s F1 titles isn’t possible due to restrictions on the licence it currently has for the sport.
If it were to happen, don’t hold out for a standalone game, though. It’d be DLC all the way.
“At the moment this is not possible because the license does not allow us to include GP2 even if we wanted to (plus we would need a much bigger team),” chief game designer Stephen Hood told Thunderbolt.
“Maybe in the future this is something that will change. I can’t see it becoming a standalone game but it would certainly make for interesting downloadable content one day.”
For those not in the know, GP2 basically became Formula One’s feeder series after Formula 3000 ended. Where else did Lewis Hamilton come from before he drove for McLaren the year after winning GP2?
Hood also confirmed that Sumo Digital, who created the PSP and Wii versions of F1 2009, are making the 3DS and Vita versions of F1 2011.
F1 2011 launches in September for PS3, 360 and PC. The handheld versions will subsequently follow.
