More details have emerged concerning Mojang and Bethesda’s Scrolls trademark settlement.
Gamasutra reports the agreement has one extra clause not mentioned in earlier reports; Mojang will not be able to make any more games under the title of Scrolls.
If the tactical card battler spawns a sequel, it will have to sport an entirely different name.
Details of the two companies’ settlement broke over the weekend, with Mojang boss Markus “Notch” Persson revealing that the terms allowed the game to be released as is, without paying damages.
Mojang will give up any trademark claim to the word Scrolls as it pertains to video games, and has vowed not to make a competitor to The Elder Scrolls under the title.
Bethesda’s parent company Zenimax was forced to challenge Mojang’s trademark of the word Scrolls earlier this year due to foibles in US trademark law which would otherwise have left the company defenceless in future trademark suits.
