Company of Heroes 2 Russian distributor is no longer selling the game

1C, a large distributor of Company of Heroes 2 in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe, is no longer offering the game for sale.

The distributor had this to say on its website – as translated by Google:

“In connection with appeals of people who consider unacceptable number of episodes of the game, the company ‘1C-SoftKlab’ chose 26 July 2013 to stop selling PC game Company of Heroes 2 (developer – Relic Entertainment, publisher – SEGA) in the territory of the Russian Federation and CIS.

“At the moment we are analyzing the situation and inform the developer and publisher.”

The move comes after a large number of Russian players complained about the game’s portrayal of the WW2 conflict on the eastern front.

Some started a petition asking Valve to remove the game from Steam, the petition amassed almost 17,000 signatures at the time of writing, while others went as far as to give the game very low user scores on Metacritic.

Company of Heroes 2 came out June 25 on PC to good reviews.
