Yooka-Laylee is heading to Nintendo Switch in mid-December

Switch owners can finally get in on the Yooka-Laylee fun when it releases for the system in mid-December.

Yooka-Laylee will be released for Nintendo Switch in the middle of next month, and will be available for pre-order through the eShop starting on December 7.

According to Playtonic, the Switch version features various polishes and updates, and single-JoyCon play across all eight multiplayer features and a custom Achievement system.

The updates included in the Switch version were released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One users post-launch. This includes the new camera mode, control improvements, menu options, music and various tweaks.

Back in September, the Playtonic team apologized for Yooka-Laylee’s delay on Switch, citing technical hurdles. According to the studio, it was forced to wait until the arrival of Unity 5.6 in order to resolve the issues encountered.

Unfortunately, when Unity 5.6 arrived it too introduced other issues which needed to be resolved before Yooka-Laylee could be submitted to Nintendo.

Happily, it seems everything is now a go.

“The Playtonic team has spent many, many months optimizing Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch with technical help and support from Nintendo and Unity,” according to the studio. “We believe we’re delivering a version Nintendo fans can be proud of.”

Yooka-Laylee will release for Nintendo Switch on Thursday, December 14.
